5 Classic Shows To Binge On Netflix
5 Classic TV Shows On Netflix
Written by Huzaifa Khan on June 14, 2015.
While some of us are in love with the current modern era of TV, with shows like Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead dominating ratings, there are still a bunch of people who just miss the good old days, when the most complicated thing on TV was a cheesy love triangle and not a family incest circle. Either way, for any nostalgic fans out there, KhanFlix has a list of 5 classic TV shows that you can enjoy in their prime on Netflix.
So without further ado, let's begin with the list!
Futurama
If I'm being honest, I just don't trust anyone who says they love comedy and hasn't watched Futurama. It's easily one of the wildest and smartest animated series ever created, as well as one of the absolute best sci-fi series out there. Almost every single member of the Planet Express crew is/was memorable in their own way - particularly the centric trio of Fry, Bender and Leela - and a large percentage of captivating plotlines and storylines always managed to make even the most far out concepts seem hilarious, ranging from time travel all the way to parallel dimensions. Futurama peaked unfortunately, and lost steam after its shift to Comedy Central due to its cancellation from Fox.
If you're in the mood to catch a ride with the Planet Express crew, be sure to check out all 7 official seasons, as well as the 4 direct-to-DVD movies all available for streaming now.
Twin Peaks
One of the defining, and only shows of the 90's that thankfully didn't feature a laugh track. Twin Peaks probably wouldn't have felt any different had the laughter been added in however. This tour de force from David Lynch and Mark Frost was first and foremost a mystery drama about the circumstances behind the death of teenager Laura Palmer, which is being investigated by FBI agent Dale Cooper, played with an unquivering optimism by Kyle MacLachian, who you may recognize from Marvel's Agents of Shield. It offered a no-stone-unturned look at a small northern town where secrets and fantasies flow like tap water. If you're someone who enjoys nostalgic mystery, this is definitely the show to tackle.
Although it was cancelled before Season 3, Netflix still offers both season for you to stream at your pleasure, which should get you set for the Showtime revival of the series coming next year.
Star Trek
It's downright impossible to imagine any sci-fi fan who hasn't had a connection with the Star Trek franchise in some way or another, and Netflix pretty much wants to make sure you don't forget that. If you're an old schooler who can't get enough of the late Leonard Nimoy (R.I.P.) or Patrick Stewart, than this is definitely where you want to be. Plus, if seeing real 3-D people gets to be too much for some reason, then the animated series will tide you over nicely. For those of you that want to start the movie and want to catch up on the storylines, this would be the perfect place to start.
Currently, all 3 seasons of the original series are there, as are all 7 seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation, all 7 seasons of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, all 7 seasons of Star Trek: Voyager, and all 4 seasons of Star Trek: Enterprise.. Oh, and both seasons of Star Trek: The Animated Series are also available to stream as well.
Friends
I'm pretty sure I don't even have to convince anyone to actually go and force themselves to watch it, life has a way of making you experience the show on its own. But if you're so inclined to be your own person, it's essentially a miracle that Netflix finally has all 10 seasons of the hit 90's sitcom in all its glory. Relive the incredible adventures of Rachel Greene, Ross Geller, Chandler Bing, Monica Geller, Joey Tribbiani, and Phoebe Buffet, as they live, laugh and love their way through life in New York City. This sitcom inspired countless shows today (as well as an unfortunate spinoff to which we will not discuss), but every form of the characters can still be seen today through its massive influence and impact on our culture.
As mentioned, all 10 seasons are available to stream right now, and have fun getting that theme song out of your head.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer
One of the more successful movie-to-TV transitions in recent entertainment history, Buffy The Vampire Slayer saw a whole other side to creator Joss Whedon, who presented a much appreciated turn of humour in exchange for a darker storyline. The show follows Sarah Michelle Gellar's titular Slayer as she balances her life at Sunnydale High (in early seasons) in a world full of vampires and demons. Many teens would've killed to have been aprt of the central Scooby Gang, as they made the storylines fun and exciting, no matter how dark they would be. While your mileage may vary on the spinoff series Angel, Netflix has that as well in all its glory to stream, and the two shows work well together in tandem. Buffy may be dead, but it's still pretty.
All 7 seasons of Buffy are available to stream, as well as all 5 seasons of Angel, so plan your cross-viewing effectively!
That's all for our list, now get a head start and binge your hearts out with our top 5. For all our TV needs, both nostalgic and current, you're already in the right place, here at KhanFlix.
